Stadiums are used to be designed as large-span structures in our country. Resonance phenomenon would occur when the frequency of pedestrian walking is close to the fundamental frequency of the large-span floor. Although there is no harm in structural safety, large vibrations result in discomfort feelings for people. Therefore, it is worth noting that the vibration comfort issues caused by pedestrian load need further research. For the common stadium buildings, the top space truss roof and the supporting reinforced concrete frames would be analyzed separately since it is likely to be urgent in the concept design or preliminary design stage. Thus, some approaches, are required to simulate the interactions between the top space truss roof and the supporting reinforced concrete frames so that the analysis results are close to the entire building structure. Since the preliminary model has significant influence on the structural design in the following construction stage, the simplified design methods in the preliminary design stage are required to be studied.Above all, taken a multi-function stadium building as a case, this paper has carried out the following analyses with the help of commercial software SAP2000:(1) Selection of a reasonable vibration comfort criteria.(2) With the purpose to study the resonance response excited by pedestrian walking, the modal analysis on reinforced concrete composite structures has performed with the finite element model developed in SAP2000.(3) Using the reasonable load model for single or crowd pedestrian, analyses are performed by exciting the maximum vertical deflection point based on the modal analysis result.(4) Time history and frequency domain analyses are performed under the single pedestrian and crowd pedestrian walking loads, which are helpful to determine the analysis objects.(5) According to the specification requirements, the comfort were evaluated.(6) With the purpose to evaluate the chosen ground motions for the specific stadium building in this paper, the power spectral density functions of 7 pairs of ground motions are computed with the programs coded by MATLAB.(7) The top space truss roof and the supporting reinforced concrete frames are analyzed separately. The results from these two single FE models are compared to the entire FE model so that the simplified design methods are assessed sufficiently.Above all, the conclusions derived in this paper could be considerd to instruct other similar buildings in comfort evaluation under pedestrian walking loads. Simplified analysis could be performed following the methods presented in this paper in the construction stage.
