Under the context of fierce competitions among the engineering machinery industry, it turns to be an inevitable development trend for enterprises, aiming to improve their market competitiveness, to respond quickly to such customers’ demands by carrying out initiatives of product customization while allowing customers to participate in the product design, thereby shortening the product R&D cycle. Comparatively, traditional customization is of single model and low visualization degree, and the design philosophy combined with parametric design technology is not yet mature. In this paper, the modular technology, parametric design technology, secondary development technology and virtual reality technology are utilized to study the visual customization platform so as to meet customers’ personalized and diversified demands.Firstly, this paper makes clear the functions and forms of engineering machinery product customization platforms through first analyzing characteristics of engineering machinery products and customers’ demands thereof, and puts forward a kind of customization platform integrating visual customization and parametric design into one. Secondly, it analyzes module partition principles and guidelines of engineering machinery products, and partitions the engineering machinery product modules by means of the fuzzy clustering method in fuzzy mathematics; based on the above-mentioned, this paper conducts the secondary development of SolidWorks by taking advantage of Visual Studio 2005, builds a customized enterprise platform, and establishes the parametric design system, which operates the parametric design based on different modules and designs products in a quick manner by using key dimensions. Thirdly, it further makes use of the visual reality technology to establish a Unity3D-based visual customization system and build a client application of customization platform, through which clients may carry out visual customization in accordance with fixed types, demanding details and function modules. Finally, this paper proceeds studies of the data transmission and management between two varied subsystems, and concludes that applicable data are sent back to enterprises for feedback in the form of text upon customization while enterprises incorporate the corresponding data directly into the design system before working out customized product models; And SQL Server database is applied to the custom platform for enterprise to inquire and manage customer order information.Moreover, this paper also takes the drill jumbo as the research subject, makes a module division of the drill jumbo according to the research method, builds a visual customization platform thereof, and verifies the feasibility of the customization platform and its scalability when applied to other engineering machinery products.
