Research On Design Trend Of College Library Reading Space In Chongqing Area

The formation and development of library reading space has experience three reforms. The first reform was in 1840 after Opium War, western missionaries set up western libraries in China; feudal library building changed into modern library and public reading space of library has come into shape. The second reform was in 1920 s, with the opening up of library to public, there was rapid increase in collection volume of books and quantity of readers; modern library has developed into maturity and it set up independent reading room in the library. The third reform was at the beginning of the 21 st century, with the application of modular library design concept and digital technology in China, reading space, collection space, leisure space, exhibition space and digital virtual space integrated with each other and formed into composite; the library has developed from single function to diversified and composite. This article takes reading space design in library as research object, college library in Chongqing area as research basis and analysis of its design trend as specific content.Through making comparison research on historical construction of college library reading space in Chongqing area and modern morphological characteristics, summarize two big trends of modern college library reading space-composite trend and humanized trend.Composite design trend of reading space is mainly presented in two aspects: the first is composite design trend of physical function space, reading space is not a closed and independent space of single function any more, but a comprehensive place integrating collection space, leisure space and exhibition space together; this kind of diversified design with multi-functions makes the reading room meet the reading requirements of readers and also has the functions of collection, leisure and display, which is a necessary method of improving quality of library reading space and optimizing space function. The second is design trend with combination of digital virtual space and physical space. The changes of reading medium and information storage technology produce reform for physical reading space, a series of reforms also produced in structure method of reading space and functional design etc.Humanized design trend of reading space is mainly presented in space layout, lighting environment and interior furnishings three aspects. In space layout, divide “quiet area” and “noisy area” which can provide study and communication platform for readers; in lighting, create the best lighting environment for readers with combination of natural light and artificial lighting; in interior furnishings, improve cultural atmosphere and environmental quality by soft decoration design. Humanized design concept has been fully presented in reading space design and physiological needs and psychological needs are advancing together. The space design of college library reading space is no longer existed in practical level, presenting a trend of diversified readers’ requirements into design.Propose better composite reading space and humanized design plan under the summarizing and analyzing college reading space in Chongqing area in composite and humanized design principle and also the disadvantages in space layout, lighting environment and interior furnishings and making analysis and comparison with excellent cases in design of foreign college library reading space.
