As an important electrical equipment in power system, high voltage circuit breaker plays a role in the control and protection. As the scope and capacity of power system expands, ensuring power system’s safe and stable operation is more and more important for improving people’s quality of life, and on-line monitoring technology of high voltage circuit breaker is increasingly showing its importance and necessity. Because of the traditional maintenance method’s disadvantages of blindness, high cost and low utilization rate, scientific maintenance method has important economic and technical significances for reliable operation of high voltage circuit breaker. Currently, the lack of a unified high voltage circuit breaker on-line monitoring system standard makes on-line monitoring equipments made by different manufacturers use different types of communication protocol, this results in non-interoperability between equipments creates waste. The IEC61850 standard is an international standard for substation communication networks and systems, designed to make intelligent electronic devices from different manufacturers achieve interoperability.The on-line monitoring system of SF6 circuit breaker is studied in this article. Firstly we introduced the maintenance system and research situation of power grid to put forward the necessity of condition-based maintenance. Secondly we introduced the structure and working principle of circuit breaker to confirm the main monitoring items.Based on analysis and study of the IEC61850 standard, this article makes sum of the IEC61850 system architecture and key technical content, make research of IEC61850 object-oriented modeling ideas, summary the general steps of IED modeling. Then we modeled the intelligent electronic device of on-line monitoring system of SF6 circuit breaker which is based on IEC61850 standard.This article designed a SF6 circuit breaker on-line monitoring system including sensors, data acquisition and communication unit for the hardware and background monitoring terminal software. The sensors are chosen according to the functional and reliability requirements. Acquisition unit is a dual-core system based on FPGA and ARM. Background monitoring terminal is programmed with C# language. Adopting this structure the monitoring system which is researched by this article can meet the requirements of online monitoring of smart grid and effectively realize the function of acquisition, storage, processing, operation, communication of data of SF6 circuit breaker.
