The Expression Of Regionalism Ideology Of Contemporary Architecture In Taiwan

After an exchange term to Taiwan National Yunlin University of Science and Technology in 2014, the author begins to have a deeper understanding of Taiwan architecture and environment of architecture creation. Addressing the challenges of Globalization, the study on regionalism of contemporary architecture becomes a hot pot. Although there is a cultural relevance between Taiwan and Mainland China, the regional architecture form in Taiwan has its bright characteristics and development path, based on the natural, historical and political environment of Taiwan. The research on the regionalism of Taiwan architecture in ideological characteristics and design method will inspire the development of regional architecture in Mainland China. The research methods of the paper include: a combination of data collection, field observation and interview in the early stage, classification statistics and logic analysis in the later stage. The research route of this paper is based on the context of Taiwan contemporary regional architecture, including the summary of ideological content at the macro level and introduction of methods of architectural details at the micro level.The paper can be divided into five chapters. Chapter one is the introduction part, mainly stating the origins, background, purpose, content, importance, present situation and method of research. Chapter two is the brief discussion of the development process of regionalism of Taiwan Architecture and contemporary ideological connotations, including regional architecture development overview, exploration trend, influential elements and realistic situation of design and group identity of regional architects. Chapter three, four and five are respectively discussion on the conceptions of nature, culture and technology of regionalism of Taiwan architecture. In order to confirm regional ecosystem is an open, organic entirety, Chapter three illustrates the adaptability design methods through three aspects of local environment, local climate and local material. Chapter four responds to Taiwan cultural inheritance and construction of community empowerment in three aspects containing humanistic concern, local culture and traditional philosophy. At last, Chapter five explains the multileveled technology of Taiwan regional architecture from continuation of traditional technology, combination of traditional and modern technology and regional expression of modern technology. The Chapter three to four are the most important part for discussion.The creative feature of this paper is focusing study on the time after 1990s(Martial-Law Period) when the system of regionalism of Taiwan architecture is completed and unique. During these years, although the regionalism of Chinese architecture in Mainland has achieved impressive results, it still gets in straits. The study of regionalism of Taiwan architecture can gain some experience and inspiration for the Mainland China. Besides, instead of generally researching on case study as unit, the paper systematically presents ideological characteristic and design methods of Taiwan regional architecture, according to the regional architecture open framework, in three aspects: environment, culture and technology.
