Construction safety is always one of the most difficult problems in need to be solved in the industry. However, the current management measures and technologies can’t decline the rate of accidents further with the scale of building increasing because of the ignorance for unsafe state in the construction site. Based on the extend of construction safety management field, the Design for Construction Safety(DFCS) concept considers that it’s feasible to identify and eliminate the hazards in the design phase to reduce the amount of construction accidents. The research integrate BIM with great application value in the construction safety field and DFCS concept to design the mechanism of the tool to implement the goal, and take an initial tempt.The research analyzes the necessity of pre-control for the reduction of construction accidents. By reviewing the previous researches, the paper introduces the definition of the Prevention through Design and Design for Construction Safety, and discuss the implement of the technologies and BIM for construction safety and analyze the automatic check system. As a result, the functions including visualization and virtual simulation can meet the demand of DFCS tool. Then the research analyzes the types of construction accidents and the reasons to get the unsafe factors related to design and classifies them to tree categories. Based on the industrial codes, a system of safety rule is proposed that can make up the shortage of the designers on knowledge and skills about safety. With the analysis of the characters and advantages of BIM, the research makes BIM as the platform of automatic check system linked to safety rules, which can make the architecture building information model, structure information model and temporary equipment information model as objects. By integrating BIM and safety rules as a prototype system, the paper can help the designers and engineers find unsafe factors by outputting check report and BIM safe model as a guild. As last, the research take an initial test to provide consequence of the system implement.The research proposes the safety rules innovatively to provide database for BIM implement, and the integration of BIM and safety rules can realize the DFCS theory and enforce the influence of designers on the construction safety, which has a promising application value.
