Chinese cities have experienced great changes during the globalization and modernization movement, so does the lifestyle of Chinese people. On one hand, economy is growing rapidly and the cities’ appearance is changing fast, on the other hand, there exist a variety of problems such as the resembling of cities images, the tranfic congestion, low quality of dwelling, alienation of neighbourhood, the split of social groups, and so on.Facing the scenes of devastated cities and anachrony of historical context, Chinese urban planners and architects now are endowed the historical missions of protecting historial context and culture as well as exploring a future healthy, comfortable and poetic living environment and residential model which is suitable for Chinese living style.This research is based on the integrate study of traditional city living space and modern city theories, and achieves a “street- lane- courtyard” ideal prototype and place structure which has the continuity and organism with living world from personal life to neighbourhood life and to public life. By analyzing cases, this model is proved to be an ideal city outerspace model which starts from life and has certain universality.After the space model was set up, the characteristics of the site were analyzed and captured, the defects of the planning and architecuture scheme was found, a space program and planning strategy was under exploring which suited the site and derived from life. And then from the aspect of urban renovation and creating public space, on the basis of urban planning structure, several sites were carefully designed in detail, aiming to creat a kind of more open, communal and tolerative urban community model.This research emphasizes a kind of relational, sequential and holistic place structure on the diffevent levels of street, lane and courtyard, aims to change people’s behavior and life stye through environment.
