From the nature and totem worship in ancient history to the upsurge of memorial halls with variousthemes in modern times, memorial sites, the materialization of human emotion in the architectural space, have been shouldering the responsibility to pass on and inherit the history. Memorial activities relies onspecific space, while the memorial architecture and its outerspace, provides people with exactly such kindof area to carry out memorial activities to meet their memorial needs.Established on the research on the outerspace of the memorial sites, this article selected severalimportant factors to conduct quantitative analysis, aiming to find out1) the interrelationship among thedifferences of diverse memorial sites;2) how the interrelationship displayed; and3) the main factors thatinfluence the differences. Meanwhile, Editing and Publishing of The Sourcebook of ContemporaryArchitecture (3rd Edition) provides a turning point for in-depth investigation of this article. With an initial understanding to the history, hierarchical classification, operation situation and existedproblems of the memorial sites, this article expanded from three aspects, respectively discussed about thedesignation of the economic and technical index of the outerspace, the functional profiles, and thesequence organization. Accordingly, the economic and technical index referred to the definition andinfluential factors of the construction scale, volume fraction, building density, ratio of green space; thefunctional profiles included the measurable factors such as the scales and proportion of the entrance plazas, main memorial squares, parking lots and leisure service zone; sequence organization consisted of therelationship among spatial sequence, time sequence and emotional sequence and influence that factors suchas terrain and paths that had on the sequence organization.Concerning the research methods, this article summed up and sorted out the data from the fieldinvestigation, questionnaire surveys and lateral correlation, presented the results in the form of graphs andtables, combined the results with related theories such as visual analysis, architectural field effect, and thepsychological and behavioral characteristics of the users, in order to have a comprehensive research intothe issue concerned. The article aimed to obtain an understanding of the variation laws of outerspace underdifferent classification standards and influential factors in the quantitative aspects. It also hoped to serve asa complement to the present researches on the outerspace of memorial sites, especially to explore theblankness of quantitative research in this issue. At the end of the article, it focused on the construction status of memorial sites and the social hotissues of our country, summarized respectively on the scales, characteristics, meanings and functionalaspects and proposed reflection on it.
