In the context of rapid urbanization in China, various city diseases arise increasingly as the motorization level soars-frequent smogs and traffic jams in major cities with the wantonly spreading of urban space. Urban systems and urban ecology problems become so serious that people have to rethink the relationship between human and nature, and eco-city as a model that mankind lives in harmonious coexistence with nature has gradually received attentions. In order to achieve the vision of eco-city, ecological urban transport system is clearly essential. Firstly, based on the relationship between the connotation of eco-city and sustainable transport, this paper discusses the major transport and spatial characteristics of eco-city from the perspective of green transport, along with the inseparable link between urban spatial system and traffic unit.Secondly, the paper points out that TOD as a means of green transport planning and urban space development model, is of great significance for urban ecological development. After discussing the content, principle and structure of TOD (Transit-Oriented Development), the paper further analyzes the positive effect of TOD on the ecological urban development from the view of eco-transportation and the complexity of urban space and transportation, followed by the relevant case studies. Then, through questionnaires and literature retrieval method, this paper gives in-depth analysis of the main drawbacks of the current urban spatial structure and transportation system of Suzhou City, and masters the basic travel pattern and related factors in Suzhou. On the basis of the analysis of the current situation, the urgency of Suzhou City on TOD development and its background advantages are stressed, then the policies of TOD from the eco-city perspective of Suzhou at macro and micro level are put forward, which includes urban spatial structure optimization and green transportation system optimization. Finally, further analysis of the role of these two aspects of TOD planning strategies for the development of Suzhou ecological transportation is given, mainly including the impact of mixed land-use, ecological spatial planning and compact development (from space optimization level), public infrastructure, route planning and slow transport-oriented development (from green transport level) on promoting green travel, providing relevant policy suggestions and support for facilitating the rational TOD mode in entering the eco-city planning process of China.
