As a kind of renewable energy, wind energy resources have been widely concerned around the world. Vertical axis wind turbine is currently the main application of small wind turbine market, it has no wind direction, low maintenance cost advantages, has been widely concerned by the community. However, in order to further improve the wind energy utilization of vertical axis wind turbines, a large number of research needs to be done. On the basis of H type wind turbine, this paper presents a spiral vertical axis wind turbine, and further research work on its aerodynamic performance and flow field, and the design of a vertical axis wind turbine 5kW.This paper mainly through the numerical simulation method of wind turbine performance is studied and discussed, follow the research ideas from the local to the whole, from straight blade and curved blade, from simulation to experiment. Finally, we put forward the research scheme of the spiral type wind turbine. At first, the paper introduces the some basic theory of the study on vertical axis wind turbine, lay the theoretical foundation for the following simulation analysis and parametric design analysis; then in a spiral wind institutions built 3D model, dividing the computational domain grid and multi condition of numerical simulation was carried through the CFD software of spiral type wind turbine; finally through theoretical and simulation results are the parametric design of the wind turbine, to determine the main parameters of the wind wheel, and validated by experiments.The article finally proposed a spiral type vertical axis wind turbine model, and designed a prototype, through prototype experiment and obtained a series of test index. By comparing the simulation results with the experimental data, the results are basically the same, the reliability of the model is verified, which provides data support for the optimal design of the following units.
