This paper proposed a new concept of active seatbelt, according to a combination of active and passive safety. T he control system got signals from front collision warning system, and drove motor to tighten the seatbelt after scanning, recognizing and processing these signals. T he whole process occurred in the pre-collision process, thereby effectively eliminating slack of the seatbelt webbing before the crash, restraining the occupant, and reducing the peak acceleration of the occupant’s chest during a collision, thus improvi ng the effect of occupants’ protection.Preload parameters were first obtained through model, providing data support for the control system designing; T hen the function of the control system was determined according to the control logic, the priority of di fferent condition of active seatbelt were definitude and the control system were designed. Circuit board test were taken based on Freescale microcontroller MC9S12G48; A new kind of algorithm were designed, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the implem entation of working conditions and the independence of signal scanning and motor running; In addition, with the development of the current automotive electronic communication systems, communication protocol was designed between control systems based on CAN bus, defining the communication styles, the way to receive and analyze signals from FCW, then software was programmed by C++, after which PC and lower machine were interacted, diagnosed and tested using CAN-USB and RS232 communication software as well as achieving joint commissioning of the entire control system, realizing the execution of all functions from FCW to the active seatbelt; Finally, the control system test were studied to reach the standard of this kind of ECU. The durability and reliability o f the designed control system were tested, as well as the occupant behavior test to verify their protection ability.Research concept and results in this paper have a certain reference value for the development of active and passive safety technology and adaptive restraint system.
