Yoshio Taniguchi is a famous modernist architect who has gained a high praise and reputation in Japan. His greatest believe is to insist on a designing style and idea featuring with pure, brief, rationality and earnest in such an impetuous and utilitarian world. In China, Yoshio Taniguchi is not quite famous. So I am going to learn more about him in detail through analyzing his growth experience, architectural thought and design methods. The lessons we can draw from it will help us to develop ourselves.The whole thesis includes five chapters, and these five chapters can be sorted into three parts:the first part (Chapter 1) indicates what this paper discussed like object, background, aim, meanings, researching methods and the structure of the article. The second part includes Chapter 2 to 4. Chapter 2 gives the reason why Yoshio Taniguchi cultivated such an architectural idea by analyzing his growing background. Chapter 3 discusses Yoshio Taniguchi’s several works and drew conclusions about his architectural thought and design methods when creating an architecture. From local details, material to the whole building and land, the process of relationship between architecture and human being indicates what Yoshio Taniguchi attaches importance to in his design:constructing the quiet place spirit between building and land, constructing the pure space between building and humans and the precious relationship among the whole building, the material and the structure. In Chapter A, I selected some Yoshio Taniguchi’s most typical cases and comprehend them by the documents gained through field investigation. The third part concludes 4 points in Yoshio Taniguchi’s creature and summarizes two reference and enlightenment that can be helpful to our own development.
