The Design Of The Buddhist Temple’s Architectural Space Based On Concise Style Of Modernism

Through thousands of years’heritage and development, Chinese Buddhist temple has already laid the foundation of its basic shape and style to some extent. Developed from the original Buddhist temple construction which had various functions, modern temple has became an architectural form with a strong religious color.During the development of polity, economics and culture, the Buddhist temple, as one of the basic original type of architecture under the impact of globalization, had influenced by the appearance design of modern architecture. In other words, thinking and exploring of the design of modern Buddhist temple is brought to architecture because of the diversified society.This paper summarizes the wide form of Buddhist temple in China, take Kunming Haihui Temple’s expansion project for example to discuss the exploration and analysis of new demands, life style and aesthetic in social and cultural status. The Buddhist temple construction’s innenarchitektur research makes those perspectives such as planar configuration, spatial relation and architectural monomer connected with the theory of Buddhism.This paper argues that the modern Buddhist temple construction can be designed by the modern minimalism style. The attempt of concise style of modernism with Buddhism temple is established in the explorations and guidance of new Buddhist temple construction architectural form. When it comes to the integration and collision of traditional culture and modern culture, only after the process includes trial, comparison, consideration, deliberation, and trial again, could the appropriate way or direction be found. While the concise one which brought up in this paper is just a branch in the numerous of attempt, and still, there is a question of whether the public will accept it or not. The paper boldly presents the close combination of Buddhism spirit and design concept, which means every detail in the construction is rely on Buddhism and Zen, and use those spirits to create a concise and characteristic space for Buddhist temple without redundance.The paper will express and interpret the Buddhist temple’s architectural space connected with the concise style of modernism based on the expansion project of Kunming Haihui Temple, to provide reference to the contemporary design of Buddhist temple construction.
