A Study Of Space And Art Design Strategy On Yunnan Mosque

China is embracing a new era on Mosque construction due to the Economic Reform and development of architectural theory. However, owing to the lack of research on this specific genre, the majority of architects preferred to take a conservative approach when designing a mosque and most of the results remain unsatisfactory. Moreover, to design a religious architecture, architects can neither neglect the cultural legacy nor evade the current context. Further researches should be done on Mosque design.Specific to Yunnan, a province with various ethnic groups, secular religions and a unique inhabited structure of the Hui people, architects ought to respond to the environment, develop an efficient way coping with the cultural context and come up with an optimal strategy while designing a Mosque.This thesis did some research on the design and construction of Yunnan Mosques, combined with the analysis of the localization and secularization of Yunnan Islam culture, we concluded the context and characteristics of Yunnan Mosque. This thesis also elaborated the five functions of a secularized mosque and design strategy of corresponding areas. We also studied some available method on architecture decoration and the evolution of some Islam key points. We hope to provide some inspiration for the designers and researchers of Yunnan mosques.
