Reed valve is a critical part of scroll compressor and installed in scroll porting area, which has big impact to compressor performance and service life. The max frequency of reed valve open and close is about 120Hz, in line with compressor speed range 7200rpm. Reed will be easily damaged under high and continuous bending stress. So keep investigating reed stress and improving its fatigue life, is quite important to scroll compressor. This paper is about finite elements analysis (FEA) and experimental research of reed valve, using ANSYS to perform finite elements analysis to reduce stress level by optimizing reed design, measuring actual stress level inside of compressor and testing its reliability life, detailed research content is as follows:(1) Analysis about structure characteristics of reed valve and basic design requirements, compares the advantages and disadvantages of different seat design, to provide theoretical basis for design optimization of reed valve.(2) Based on the theory of materials mechanics, calculate theoretical bending stress of reed valve during opening and closing situation, finally get the main design parameters that affect reed stress:reed thickness, bending radius, porting diameter.(3) Use ANSYS software to perform finite element analysis to reed, and get reed valve stress distribution and deformation during opening and closing process. Compare FEA high stress location with actual valve fatigue fracture location, to prove that FEA results are in line with real case.(4) Perform FEA with different reed valve design, by changing reed thickness, bending radius, porting diameter, and get the stress change tendency under these three parameter, based on above analysis, reed valve new design is proposed and proved with low fatigue issue and low resonance issue.(5) Based on FEA results choose the most dangerous location to measure its real stress in compressor, and tested data is in line with FEA results, which prove again that FEA is correct, which can be the reference for future reed valve design. In the end, perform accelerated life test with 3 production compressor, reed valve didn’t show any failure after 2000hrs test, proved that the reliability life of both compressor and reed valve is acceptable.
