Research On Contemporary Vernacular Urban Agriculture Landscape Design

In the summer of 2015,42nd World Expo under the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" was held in Milan, Italy. It was the first world’s fair with a food theme. Because of this World Expo, topics about food, agriculture, land, sustainable development of human and nature become the center of attention again. So, no matter how modern society development, how to better deal with the relationship between human and nature is always worthy of exploration.Nowadays, China has already entered into the 21st century. With rapid development, traditional agriculture, which dominants in our country for thousands of years, is transiting into modern agriculture, which leads to the reduction of traditional agricultural culture and landscape. Along with the rapid urban construction, there are more and more modular and decorative modern landscape design. That urban landscape pursues the immediate effect, but overlooks the aboriginality and ecology of landscape design. Under such background, some of the pioneer designers, who don’t want to go with the flow, started a large number of design practice in the city and tried to establish the new relationship between human and nature. Ultimately, they explored two kinds of ways to save the plight of contemporary urban landscape. The two ways are Urban agriculture landscape and Contemporary vernacular landscape. With the deepening of the practice, Urban agriculture landscape and Contemporary vernacular landscape gradually converged. The overlapping part, in this paper, we call it "Contemporary vernacular urban agriculture landscape ".In this paper, the research of the Contemporary vernacular urban agriculture landscape through the following ideas. First, define the concept of Contemporary vernacular urban agriculture landscape based on analysis about related concepts. And then, summarize the practice status at home and abroad and rethink profoundly. Second, research the theory through the two motifs. Third, analysis a design practice project based on the above theory. Last, summarize the research and conclude design principles and strategies. Hope this paper can infuse some fresh elements for the study of contemporary landscape design.
