With the progress of science and technology, as well as the improvment of productivity level, urban construction is further intensified. As a result, built-up land is in an increasing shortage. And such problem appears more serious in such province as Yunnan where is featured with mountains. Accompanied by the emergence of a large number of high-rise buildings and urban transportation, the fifth facade of rban building attracts more and more attention from the public. To meet the demand of residential building, more efforts are devoted to the construction speed, while less to the architectural characteristics and quality. Therefore, a large number of box-styled buildings with flat roofs are easily found at all corners of the city, leading to the lack of characteristics in traditional fifth facade of buildings.Taking the advantage of mountain terrain, the fifth facade of mountain building can arrange the construction space according to the topography. And with more diversified functions, it not only saves the land, but also enriches urban landscapes. Yunnan boasts a complex culture constitutes, varied national geographical environment, and abundant natural resources, which provide development possibility for the fifth facade of mountain building and important references for contemporary architectural designs.
