Urban waterfront is the most dynamic open space in the city, it is also an important resource in urban construction and development. Urban waterfront is pregnant with rich natural ecological resources, create a beautiful and rich landscape environment, fuses with the surrounding natural environment and local customs at the same time, reaction areas the basic and unique cultural features. It is meaningful for the urban space conformation, landscape molding, improvement of the urban grade, reflection of the city spirit, showing the image of the city, pulling the urban economy. It also plays an important role for water conservancy, flood control, the balance of urban ecological system, adjust the urban microclimate, etc. How to balance the needs of the development of the nature and human in the process of urbanization of city, continuation of the historical context of the city, build a ecological balance、low carbon、full of human feelings urban waterfront landscape environment through the comprehensive urban waterfront landscape planning and design, is that we need to research the important topic. So this thesis on the research of the urban waterfront landscape planning and design mainly consists of the following aspects:(1) The urban waterfront landscape planning and design theories. To the overall cognition and comprehensive analysis about urban waterfront landscape, this paper first elaborated the related concept of urban waterfront landscape, scoping, spatial characteristics, landscape composition, theoretical basis, etc. Through the analysis of the problems existing in the urban waterfront construction, summarizes the principles and spatial structure of urban waterfront landscape planning and construction, the basic connotation and practical significance of constituent elements such as water, plants, hard landscape and cultural landscape. Put forward the notice to low carbon, emphasize the natural ecology, satisfy the public space and continue historical context about landscape planning and design methods.(2) Classic case study of waterfront landscape planning and design at home and abroad. Through the typical cases of waterfront landscape planning at home and abroad about planning overview, Planning analysis, effect, etc, sums up the excellent experience, and apply to the Yuchi river basin waterfront landscape planning and design in Changsha Yuelu district.(3)The waterfront landscape planning and design of Yuchi river basin key sections in Changsha Yuelu district as an example for empirical study. Through on-the-spot investigation analysis current situation and existing problems of Yuchi river valley, summarize its function and characteristics, With "breathing valley" for the idea, adopting low carbon of landscape, explore a landscape planning and design which meet the needs of the urban ecological leisure, the touring experiences and suitable for sustainable development of Yuchi river waterfront.
