The scale of power system is becoming larger and larger, the structure is becoming more and more complex, the instability of power system is becoming more and more obvious. Oscillation in power system lost stability is directly related to the safe and stable running of power system. According to power system oscillation instability problem, it is necessary to carry out oscillation mechanism and influencing factors of in-depth study, and is great significance for controlling the power system stability.In this paper, combined with the low frequency oscillation in Pingban power plant at present, the mechanism of hydro-generator unit of low frequency oscillation and processing methods is described, the method of hydro-generator unit of the oscillation suppression is introduced. First, based on actual problems, oscillation problem solved program is developed. According to the excitation system and the PSS (Power System Stabilizer) model which is provided by the manufacturer, the most close to initial excitation system model is selected in the BPA (Bonneville Power Administration) transient stability analysis program, the excitation model simulation analysis in BPA, through the simulation of PSS characteristics, unit ability to find the root cause of low frequency oscillation. By using the method of SFPSO (Stochastic Focusing Particle Swarm Optimization) to optimize the PSS parameters, and the optimized parameters of simulation, the simulation conclusion a field test program. Finally, in order to more accurately determine the power system stability calculation model and parameters of excitation system, the #2 generator excitation system parameters have been tested, then the paper summarizes the research on low frequency oscillation in Pingban power plant, and the future work are discussed.The research results of this project, not only solve the problem of low frequency oscillation of Pingban power plant, but also fundamentally and comprehensively improve the performance index of unit of the excitation system, enhance the operation ability of power system stability.
