Good light environment quality can absolutely provide the best color display of objects in museums, create flexible space sequence, and build comfort environment in exhibition activities of museums.Up to now, there still exist some deficiencies in the design of light environment of modern museums, such as excessive or lacking daylighting design, abusive artificial lighting and poor positional relationship between light sources and exhibits, which often result in inhomogeneous distribution of illuminance and luminance indoor, cause discomfort glare to eyes of audiences and even damage the objects. Hence, making use of natural light in a reasonable way on the basis of character of exhibits, creating a comfortable indoor lighting environment, and making the light conform to the mental habit of sight of people are greatly important things to be worth lucubrating. This paper firstly concludes common daylighting design methods in museum architectures around the world. Then it makes a systematic classification of architectural forms, exhibit types, daylighting design methods as well as display layout in field survey ways on main museums in LingNan area, to summarize the representative model of exhibition space. On the other hand, it also states current situation in light environment of modern musesums on account of the data of questionnaire survey. In the core part of the article, based on the classification data, builds the typical models of exhibition rooms respectively containing sculpture, painting, ceramics and entrance hall. Afterwards, uses Ecotect and Radiance analysis software to simulate indoor light environment of the above display rooms under different daylighting strategies. On the basis of the calculation of daylight factors, uniformity, luminance distribution and the DGI index, determines the relative optimal daylighting design method, and proposes targeted optimization measures further. Next, using the conclusions of simulation as guidance, presents an design example of medium museum architectures concentrating on the light environment design combining general building design methods.Ultimately, summarizes the main details, conclusions as well as innovation points in this article, and puts forward several expectation on future studies.
