With the rapid increase of the train running speed in China,it has become more and more important to gauge various parameters for ensuring the train running safe. The contact force, hard spots, contact wire height, and arc are the major parameters reflexing the running state, reliability, current collection quality and riding quality of the pantograph-catenary system. In this paper, not only the methods to measure the contact forces, hard spots, the contact wire height and arc between pantograph and catenary are analyzed, but also the dynamic performance testing system of pantograph is designed to measure the four nodes.Hopefully,it could contribute to the development of railway industry. In the paper, the conception of the force state, the hard spots, the contact wire height, the pantograph-catenary arc and the cause and harm of the formation of hard spots and arc are analyzed. After consulting and comparing the detection methods,it decides that in the testing system, both contact and non-contact methods were adopted and combined. The working principle and process of the dynamic performance measurement of pantograph are described and the hardware structure of the system is determined. The software design of the testing system is completed.Based on LabVIEW,it designed the software for detecting of the pantograph-catenary contact force, hard spots, contact wire height and video recording of the arcing. And based on OpenCV and Visual Studio,it designed the software to manage the arcing video,to judge the arcing and calculate the duration of arcing. The testing system is also calibrated through the experiments. Finally, the possible errors of the testing system are analyzed and several further steps are identified to improve the system.
