The highway of Guangyuan to Bazhong is in the northern mountainous area of Sichuan, it is designed for two-way six-lane highway. Unstable Slope problem is particularly prominent, It is formed slope which 10 meter high after excavation in embankment and the number of slope over 50.The maximum height of the slope is about 45 meter, the thickness of the slope is about 11~33 meter. Slope constitutes sandstone, mudstone, landslides and other debris, the physical and the mechanical properties is poor. So the red layer slope stability problem and slope strengthening is one of the key technologies in road construction. The article based on the actual situation of highway which Guangyuan to Bazhong, This article studied the high slope type and reason, deformation and failure characteristics, deformation and failure mechanisms, slope stability and reinforcement measures. Article has important theoretical and practical significance for the construction. main contents and conclusions as follows:(1) 23 high slope chosen for this study are mainly distributed in Wangcang and mostly in the East River and Mumen River. Including residual talus, the transformation product Alluvial material, debris avalanche slope unloading formed body or ancient ancient collapsed slump body moraine and ice sediments and Quaternary sedimentary bodies, such as a or more types of debris.(2) Red layer stacked on the highway in the body on the basis of a detailed investigation. This article studies the major factor accumulation slope of genetic type, material composition and affect its stability, Causes can be classified according to the type of slope collapse type, residual slope type, landslide type and complex accumulation and so on.(3) There are two main categories of high slope deformation and failure mode.For example:Internal slope failure modes and interface damage. Slope failure mechanism:Slope instability failure is a result of the balance to another balanced development, This result is mainly due to internal and external causes of joint action. Since the slope excavation affected, Local slope shape and slope conditions subject to transformation, the slope increases overhead conditions and the occurrence of unloading and relaxation, These factors may lead directly to the local slope slumping or earthquake damage and other effects of rainfall led to partial or total slope instability failure.(4) By limit equilibrium method and strength reducted different high slope stability analysis. Analysis showed that subjects under native conditions is in stable condition and under heavy rains and seismic conditions are less stable state-in an unstable state.(5) According to the stability of the results, presented pre-reinforcement measures, and the numerical simulation of its reinforcing effect.
