With an enlarging urban size and an increasing population, the traditional urban traffic mode can’t meet the people’s need of daily traveling any more. Then comes the tram which has been developed rapidly in modern society. As an equipment of railway transportation, rescue and maintenance, engineering vehicles has become an indispensable part of the line. Engineering vehicles have been widely used in railway and subway lines. As the tram emerged late in our country, there is still a blank need to be filled in the area of engineering vehicles for the tram lines. It still has great research value on the engineering vehicles. The feature of modern tram lines is multi curve, small radius and low grade. It is the key to design a bogie which plays a decisive role in dynamic performance and security.This thesis introduces the basic features of the bogie in modern tram and engineering vehicles at home and abroad. According to the both features, the thesis try to design the most suitable bogie for the modern tram lines.As the bogie with independently rotating wheel has good capacity of small radius curving which meets the requirements of low floor vehicles, it is widely used in modern tram, but it has no function of orientation and automatic centering. Compared independently rotating wheel with the traditional one for engineering vehicles’high requirements for curving performance, it seems that the traditional wheel has the advangtages of curving performance. As the many advantages of the traditional wheelset bogie and the requirements of the tram line engineering vehicles, the traditional wheelset bogie with the inner axle box suspension is proposed for the first time in China. Base on design requirements of bogie, the main body and the structure of each component should be determined, and so are the basic parameters and dimensions of the bogie.The engineering vehicles applied in modern tram lines need good dynamic performance, especially small radius curving performance. The differential motion equation of each rigid body for wheelset, bogie frame and vehicle body are given after force analysis. And the whole vehicle is evaluated by SIMPACK.To ensure the good dynamic performance of bogie, the suspension parameters should be optimized, and then obtain the optimal range. According to the optimized parameters and GB/T 17426-1998, GB/T 5599-85, all kinds of engineering vehicles dynamic performance are analysed and predicted, of which the result shows that the dynamic performance of vehicles are in the standard range, and the vehicles can run safely and smoothly in a straight line and small radius curves of R19.The static strength and vibration characteristics of bogie frame are evaluated by the FEA software ANSYS, according to EN13749:2011, and the bogie frame is modeled by 1:1, of which the result shows that the static strength can meet the requirements of EN 13749:2011 and the self vibration frequency of frame is far away from rigid one. The vehicles can run safely.
