The design of rail transit complex may help achieve the integration of city space and the inner space of the metro station, and may also bring benefits to integration of metro transition and other functioned spaces. Based on the theme of "inner space of rail transit complex", the author of this thesis generates the topic, which focus on the mediumlization of boundary spaces. Rather than limiting border, the boundary space in the inner space of rail transit complex is the boundary transition region that is boundary-centered, having designed width and out-diffusion.Although boundary spaces abound in the inner space of rail transit complex, few has been utilized in the rail transit complex due to its no-fixed function as well as no defined property. Thus develop the boundary space in the rail transit complex as the medium between space, which provide information and have defined functions, and the information receivers. As the medium in the inner space of rail transit complex, the utilization of boundary spaces may help integrate the function of other spaces. By doing that, it may help develop more space functions, enhance the intelligibility of the undergrounds’ spaces as well as the urban culture identity, and thus reduce the urban traffic pressure. This thesis focus on the functional transition of boundary space, in that from the less utilized spaces to the valuable one, thus becomes the medium of the inner space of rail transit complex.Based on the above research background, this thesis adopts series of research methods, such as graphic language analysis, case analysis, and inter-disciplinary research. The author then generates four types of boundary spaces as medium of inner rail transit complex, that are the joint space between metro and other space functions, transit space of inner rail transit complex, inner platform spaces, and the boundary spaces in the inner platform. Besides, this thesis also analyzes the four characteristics of boundary spaces, which are negativity, contradiction, lack of connection with other spaces and functions in the inner rail transit complex. By case studying and case research, this thesis also concludes four types of design needs for boundary space as medium in rail transit complex. Thus generates four design strategies for boundary spaces in order to cause people’s attention on those boundary spaces and its medium functions.
