Uban Spatial Form Cognition Of Ancient City Datong Based On The Theory Of Uban Image

Ancient city Datong is one of the first batch announced nation historical cities. It’s unique urban style shows the rich historical and cultural accumulation. Nowadays, many cities face with similar which is lacking of historical culture and characteristics. To explore the value of the ancient city, together with protect, development, research and reform are urgently required. In today’s rapid development of urbanization, the historic city becomes a important scarce resource in tourism development, historical research and cultural inheritance. How to development, protection and use of historical resources in a better way is not only need perfect policy and correct protective measure, but also guidance with more reasonable theoretical exploration.Urban spatial cognition research precedent was come forward in Kevin lynch’s theory The Image of the City. Readability, imageability highlight the characteristics of city and become a symbol. The five elements of channel, boundary, region, node and symbol analysis method of urban image is still in use. The historical city with a thousand years of civilization is different from the modern city, its urban morphology is formed in a specific historical period and gradually evolved with the social development as well. In this paper, five elements analysis method will be applied to the ancient city Datong’s urban image cognitive and optimization practice. According to the situation of Datong history, which on the basis of the five elements, extended history elements analysis method and superposition analysis method:the former will be used in the research of Datong city urban morphology in each historical period, it is concluded the ancient city of general evolution trends and reasons; the latter will apply to the status quo of Datong city urban morphology analysis, it will study public cognitive situation and existing problems of the ancient city. Eventually put forward a reformation and optimization strategy by the way of interpretation of the five elements.Is based on the conclusions obtained from the above-mentioned research, as the lack of ancient Datong city image, starting from the perspective of public image, thinking how to show the style of the ancient city Datong, outstanding historical and cultural connotation while caring for "people" and "city" emotional interaction. At last, use the five elements method to analysis from point to plane and back from plane to point, and give the rationalization suggestion for old city image optimization. Hope this article that discuss the evolution trend and image factor analysis result of Datong ancient city can make a contribution to modern construction of Datong city.
