The handgrip strength of body mass index (muscle’s relative strength, grip strength per kilogram of body weight) mainly reflects the muscle strength of forearm and hand, and also relates to other muscles’strength to some extent. It is a good indicator of the overall strength of human’s muscle. In research area, a large number of literatures have proved the strong correlations between handgrip strength and health, which benefits profound guiding significance for designing handgrip products with the purpose of either daily exercise or rehabilitation. However, by surveying current existing handgrip products, this paper found two inadequate of taking that benefit into market:for the product design process, man-machine engineering process are rarely involved; for the function set, they have poor accuracy, and portability. In addition, the paper also found two potentials of improving the handgrip products. For example, the measured data could be stored and analyzed, and the measurement of the grip strength could be detailed into each finger. As a mainstream method of product design, Ergonomics is mainly utilized to design product to meet user’s physiology needs. On the other hand, User’s Experience as a promising design method mean to provide better experience in user’s psychological level. In this thesis, the paper took both Ergonomics and User Experience into account, and designed a multi-channel handgrip measuring device. Firstly, this paper analyzed the characteristics of the handgrip measuring product with respects to Human Anatomy and Anthropometry. Then, the paper designed prototypes based on the data that collected in the first step. At last, the paper evaluated the design to gain insights on user’s experience in both physiology and psychological level.By this thesis, the paper designed and evaluated a novel handgrip measuring product following two design methods of Ergonomics and User Experience. The results proved that the integration of these two design methods will definitely benefit product design with more harmonious physiological and psychological experience.
