With the growth of people’s living standard, their living environment has also been improved greatly. At the same time, though modern cities are in massive construction and expansion, and many high-end residential areas are springing up, the demands of the people living in the residential areas and the creation of communication space outside those areas are neglected. It is this negligence that leads to the lack of neighborhood communication which people treasure most and makes people feel not at home.Focusing on this problem, this paper analyzes and summarizes the differences between the traditional and modern living styles. By conducting a field investigation to the three living styles in Deyang City, Sichuan Province with the forms of inquiry and questionnaires, this paper finds that the key points to the indifference among the present residential neighbors is that there is lack of landscape space designs featuring with communication and senses of belonging. Through the analysis of the interpersonal communicationin different groups, this paper sums up environment factors that influence the modern neighborhood communication. This paper finds that the main entrance space, the central leisure space, children’s play facilities, fitness facilities, plants landscape, landscape sketches, seats and waterspace all play an important role in creating contact space. By deeply analyzing these factors, this paper puts forward specific measures to create interpersonal communication space in modern residential areas.
