The control valve is one of the most critical device in industrial process control. The research and development on high performance and low energy consumption of control valve is beneficial to improve industrial productivity with low energy consumption. With the development of industrial technology, the internal structure design of high-performance control valve becomes much more complex. The traditional design method with experimental studies and theoretical calculations has been difficult to meet the high design requirement of high-performance control valve. CFD numerical simulation method becomes an essential tool for the research and design of high-performance valve, which is the trend for future research. The application of CFD can not only realize deeper research on internal flow field of the valve, but also improve design efficiency and reduce development costs.Based on this idea, this paper is presented the research of using CFD to simulate and calculate characteristics of internal flow field of the piston control valve, then to find the root cause of the deficiencies and optimize the design.The solid model of the DN450 piston control valve was built by Solidworks, which is provided by Zhuzhou Southern Valve Co.,Ltd. After imported the 3D model into collaborative simulation platform ANSYS Workbench, the internal flow channel of valve is extracted, then generate meshes. According to the viscous flow, turbulent flow and multiphase flow in the flow filed of control valve, combining the basic theory and methods of fluid dynamics, establish the governing equation of 3D flow filed. The CFD simulation and calculation for the internal flow field of the control valve is finished by Fluent. And then the visualized analysis is conducted on the simulation results with Tecplot. Then, the flow character curve, the distribution diagram of pressure, velocity, flow curve and vaporization volume percentage are obtained.According to the simulation results, analyze and find the root cause of vortex and cavitation, then propose to optimize the design by increasing multilayer and internal flow induction structure. Finally, the analysis results on comparison of model before and after optimization show that the optimized structure reduce the generation of vortex and cavitation to some extent.This research provides the basis for the design and optimization of piston control valve and it also has referential value for the design of other types of control valves.
