The thesis took the Qingxi ancient city and it’s environment as the object to study the landscape form from the cultural geography. The southwest Sichuan is a district which has a lots of economic and cultural exchanges in ancient times. There were many old towns were born along the old roads and they had something similar in many places.Qingxi, an ancient city located in the southwest of Sichuan is a windy city on the crossroad of the Ancient Tea-horse Trade Route, the South Silk Road and the Sichuan’s Salt Path. It was decayed as the historical change though it was the center of Hanyuan district long time before.Previous research focused on the physical form elements such as the ancient town structure or the forms and spent less time to pay attention to the environmental influnces. The thesis took the Landscape Form as the theory to do the research.which is considered to be a systematic method. I hope to figure out a more suitable methods to help protect the historical and cultural heritage, focusing on the pattern how the culture influences on the space form.Research methods followed from macroscopic to microcosmic, whole area to specific sites, static to dynamic research on the forms of qingxi ancient city and its environment. Based on the ancient city of form and geographical environment background extraction and space element that can analysis the evolution process, summarize the uniqueness of the ancient city in order to find why the ancient city decayed. The study can provides the basis of the instance to help protecting the other old towns in this area.There were some conclusion of the lanscape form of Qingxi by researches on literature reading, visiting investigation and field survey:The site of the ancient city of Qingxi follow traditional fengshui strategy formed the "golden drum wings, large arms " pattern of Fengshui to create the "nature and humanity" to relations. Settlements along the road on both sides, the streets of the ancient city of the north and the south cross become growth core, constitutes the basic form. There were trade tradition and mixed functional areas of the city. "Four ancient relics and eight attractions", "Four elements:mountain river wind pepper" constitute the Qingxi regional spirit.Qingxi ancient city is the basic form of urban structure and combination of the cluster space. Streets of plane mainly presents the "cross" form and has the function of the commercial features. The streets have a strong tendency and more narrow compared to the other old towns of the area. The arched bridge gallery strengthen the street landscape. Public buildings and its main cluster space within the city are depended, into a chip, tape and other three kinds of planar distribution form. The ancient city of residential architectural form is given priority to courtyard, with functions of commercial and residential. The yard has a feature of open inside and close outside to prevent the wind. The houses have an exquisite details.The ancient city of the historical evolution of the form is affect by dynamic mechanism, support mechanism, coordination mechanism, mainly experienced four period. The citie have experienced a cell-chain-shaped structure in the form of evolution. Landscape in the form of the characteristic is its identification, through the investigation and study of the ancient city of physical form, the spiritual connotation of the ancient city of unique traits. This is the essence of the ancient city.In the last chapter, the protection of the landscape pattern of the ancient city of qingxi. Suggestions are put forward:attach importance to the protection of the natural landscape, the structure of the old city; revive the historical block, protect the historical buildings, inheritance and cultural environment of the site.
