Because of the reliable working, high transmission efficiency, compact structure, high transmission ratio, long life and other advantages, gearbox has become one of the key parts in the modern industry. With the development of science and technology and the improvement of living standards, people put forward more and more technical requirements to the gearbox, and noise reduction is one of the technical problems to be solved urgently. The noise level of the gearbox is not only able to be reflected its working status, but also can be used as an important indicator of the condition monitoring. Therefore, it has important theoretical significance and engineering application value to carry on the research of the noise about the gearbox.This topic is the cooperation project with VTech Electronics Ltd. I would make the small module plastic gearbox from a toy products made in VTech as the research object in this paper, analyzes the noise generation mechanism and reason, and make the corresponding optimization. Firstly, by setting up the 3D assembly model of gearbox, and adding the conditions such as load, driving, restriction and so on, I used dynamic simulation software to analyze and solve the driving force of gearbox system, and also used the finite element analysis method to obtain the natural frequencies and mode shapes. Secondly, by using the reaction of dynamic simulation as a force load to make the harmonic response analysis on the gearbox, I calculated the displacement and acceleration motion situation in the time domain of each point on gearbox. Then I put the results of harmonic response as the boundary conditions of small module plastic gearbox, used the direct boundary element method to simulation analysis of the structure noise, and combining the experiment verifies the predicted results, which provide the basis for the optimization design of low noise. Finally, according to combine the results of finite element analysis and the results of noise test, the structure of the gear box is improved, and it achieve the purpose of reducing noise. In this paper, I combine the multi body dynamics, finite element method and boundary element method and other methods to carry out a systematic and effective simulation study of the noise problem on small modulus plastic gearbox, and put forward the scheme of design optimization to reduce the noise, which has certain research significance and reference value to optimize the design of products.
