Distribution Automation is a kind of new technology. Electric power application technology has taken it to remit the shortage of electric energy and the demand of high quality electricity in recent years. State Grid Corporation of China put forward clearly that they will strive to develop and construct smart grid nationwide. The construction of smart distribution is mainly based on medium-low voltage power networks. It is faced the urban resident, the enterprise and so on. The task of the construction is to reinforce the grid structure, cut down the weak spot and bottleneck, separate the major network and user malfunction, improve the ability of finding and handling fault and recover the user power supply in time. It is included that the successful application of Distribution Automation in the city is of great significance and there is uncertain factor in the urban planning and development. The uncertainty is mainly for the great influence that local political economy acts on the urban development. Therefore, there are some differences in the application of Distribution Automation, such as the structure, management, application, operating levels and soAt the same time, the traditional structure of distribution network and the model of management have not adapted to the demand of new situation along with the higher requirement of power supply quality and reliability. Therefore, the distribution automation management system comes into being. However, the application of this system has different applicable forms in different areas. The paper will seriously study and summarize the application of distribution automation in city.Firstly, the paper introduces the significance, current situation and construction requirement of Distribution Automation. Secondly, the correlative theory is stated. And then taking the application of Distribution Automation in Zibo as example, the dissertation analyzes the development situation of Zibo. This lays the foundation of exploring the appropriate way to smart grid in the development of similar city and the aim of it is to build urban distribution which can provide users with high-quality power supply service and power quality. In the coming, the paper introduces the development scheme and principle of Zibo. At the last, the text discusses the application and research of Distribution Automation.Distribution Automation is of great importance to the optimization of power energy, the pressure of remitting power supply and the service of power. The urban distribution automation is beneficial to improve the management level of municipal power-supply companies. It is also an efficient way to increase the economic benefit of the city. The operation model of automation can effectively alleviate the work of switching operation by monitoring the distribution network. Therefore, the productivity and safety of the staff are improved enormously, the power supply ability is increased and the electricity market is exploited dramatically. Distribution Automation is beneficial to locate the fault rightly, isolate the fault automatically, recover the power timely, decrease the loss of fault extremely, increase the safety and reliability of the power highly, improve the efficiency of dealing fault effectively and win the credit of consumers for the power supply ability. At the same time, Distribution Automation is helpful to decrease the energy consumption and power supply risk and ensure the quality and reliability.
