The distribution network is directly connected to the terminal users, its safe and reliable operation directlyaffects the users' power quality and reliability. Distribution automation technology which is the key technology to improve the reliability of distribution network can realize grid fault identification, isolation and network reconfiguration;it has a very positive effect on optimizing the operation and management of distribution network and realizing efficient and economical operation of distribution network.The development of distribution automation technology at domestic and overseas is studied in this paper, and the problems in the design of distribution automation project are summarized. Then the implementation of current project areas and equipments are analyzed, the project construction objectives and construction principles are proposed, the four models of feeder automation construction are compared detailedly, and on this basis,the detailed construction and transformation of technical solutions of distribution automation upgrade project is researched and prepared.And the protection setting principle of the local line-selection switch is given according to the actual situation and the practical application of the on-the-spot type line switch. The methods of in-place automatic switch protection running, state transitions and inspecting defects areproposed. The correctness of the scheme is verified by the examples of the correct actions and malfunctions of the automatic switch. Finally, this paper summarizesthe achievements of distribution automationimprovement project.This program and application design has been good applicated in Zhenjiang City distribution automation upgrade project. In practice,it eliminates the blind problem, feeder automation design function has the success action several times which effectively reduces the impact of power failure and improves the reliability of regional power supply. Expected effects of the design are achieved. It has a more strong guiding significance on the desired effect of the design to continue to carry out the construction of distribution automation system.
