With the development and improvement of the city, the construction of the open space of urban waterfront is getting increasingly attentions in modern landscape urbanism. The open space of urban waterfront, as a part of urban public space, is not only as a crucial factor to improve urban environment quality and urban identity, but also as a carrier of the city’s historical culture. So, how to provide a beautiful eco-environment and satisfy the needs of activity space for the user of open space of urban waterfront is always a serious problem to the designers.The open space of waterfront of Ganjiang River West Bank in Nanchang was studied in this paper. At first, the waterfront open space related theoretical basis, environmental psychology, environment-behavior studies and landscape ecology were studied. Conduct a comprehensive investigation to the waterfront open space of Ganjiang River West Bank in Nanchang, by using research methods such as field research method, questionnaire method and behavior observation and note based on the theoretical research. To understand the users behavior patterns of different season, times and ages, and conduct a targeted further investigation to some important sections. From the perspective of environmental behavior, the behavior patterns of different age groups of waterfront open space of Ganjiang River West Bank in Nanchang were studied, and explore the connections between human behavior and activity and environment. In order to find the corresponding countermeasures to resolve these problems, the ecological landscape current situation and application condition and the existing problems were analyzed and some related theories and practice were used.
