Urban Design Strategies Based On Landscape Shaping

Fen River landscape is a special linear space in public open space of Taiyuan, as an important carrier of cityscape, through the historical changes, and contains a rich cultural heritage. Thesis research object is the waterfront of the city with linear features, it’s common in the city, and affected with the most region of the city. It plays a key role in shaping the overall style of the city.Firstly, it analysis and defines the key words on "linear space""linear landscape""Linear Waterfront" to qualify the scope of the study. Research on the basis theories of the linear space and urban design practice on the waterfront public space of the linear progress at home and abroad, according to the urban design, trends of the linear Waterfront summed the four concern points of linear waterfront landscape features in the modern city, to shape the ecological landscape and the regional Characteristics, to create the sense of place, to pursue the process.Secondly, study on the historical documents of Fen River landscape of Taiyuan as a case, analyzes the evolution of the Fen River and the city. Based on the research of Fen River landscape, analysis the related elements from three aspects——the personality, the structure and the implication of which carrying the cityscape. Study on the evaluate of urban landscape and the control of urban design,and refer to the relevant research on evaluation system of the Waterfront characteristics to build the evaluation system which including the skyline, interface of waterfront buildings, open space, transportation systems, shoreline of waterfront, landscape of waterfront and20secondary indicators. Investigating and rating the Fen River landscape to obtain the current problems and the evaluation results.Finally, based on the evaluation results of Fen River landscape and the cases of domestic and foreign urban waterfront linear landscape, summarize the urban landscape design strategies of the large-scale waterfront linear open space from two characteristics of the weaker elements. In addition, to shape the cityscape features of Taiyuan as reference.
