Converter station is a place with extremely high voltage and fatalness. The devices need to be tested and exchanged frequently. The security of converter station must be guaranteed strictly. Nowadays, workers are usually required to be on duty for 24 hours and taking regular inspection as the security management of converter stations. Many plans of monitoring systems have come into use for the improvement of converter station security in recent years. Monitoring systems can be classified according to the goals:image monitoring of the scene (generally using video cameras), and parameter monitoring of the device. In practical work of converter station, managers not only want to know the accurate position of devices, but also need to get their own running status and parameters directly. This research is aimed at proposing a plan, which can fully combine those two requirements and solve them effectively.According to the problems and thought of converter station management, this thesis researched present situation and feasibility of panorama which is a widely-used branch of virtual reality, and finally proposed the design and implementation of 3D panorama software applying to converter station management system. Panorama is an important branch of virtual reality, which is also a typical application of image-based rendering technology. Panorama is able to provide a highly-actual 360 degree view in computer that makes user feel immersive on the scene. It is small in volume, strong in sense of reality and also flexible that makes panorama compatible to be used on the Internet. Panorama is classified into three models:cylinder, cube and sphere. The software designed in this issue uses sphere model. This software contains three modules:image gathering and stitching module,3D modeling & texturing module and hotspot database module. Hardware such as digital cameras and Cloud Terraces are mainly used for image gathering. The Image can be affine transformed into a single panorama texture that fits for sphere. This software is made by Adobe Flash and ActionScript3.0. Away3D Engine is used for scene design. The definition of texture is 8192x2048 pixels. The software uses customized hotspots to achieve the combination between device position and running status. Hotspots can be inserted in scene for showing extra running status of the devices. Hotspot in this software has two units:3D location unit and 2D tracing unit. These 2 units are connected by mapping relationship between 3D coordinates and screen coordinates. The hotspots out of stage can be hided by calculating the normal vector of the sphere and forward vector of location unit. The running statuses of the device are saved in external XML files. ActionScript provide interface for XML for transmitting these properties to the hotspots and show them on the information window when mouse goes over the 2D units. Each pair of 2D and 3D units shares the same ID.This software has great compatibility for Internet environment that the system can be directly used on the web browsers. Although the goal of software development is to solve converter station management problems, its applied range can be extended by appropriate modification. This software uses sphere module on account of outdoor environment of converter station. Cube module fits indoor monitoring better. Beyond that, this software can also apply for navigation, display or other monitoring area by modifying format of hotspot, customization of hotspot features, or adding external data interfaces.
