Create community through building design once was the architects’ goal, but most architects find this concept is not easy to implement. Root of the problem lies in two aspects: on one hand, the convergence between architectural design and urban planning is not perfect; on the other hand, the designers lack the awareness of space’s social effects. Space Syntax theory was put forward to solve this problem and provide decision support for space planning and designing. The rapid development of the city has prompted designers to consider the impact of possible future urban design plan in advance. So the Space Syntax’s application in urban planning and architectural design is increasing continuously, the building intelligent processing demand in spatial configuration information is also growing strongly. As an important method of space syntax’s theoretical analysis, axial analysis is widely used in various empirical studies, but the complex process of the axis extraction and analysis limits the application of this method in the complex spatial configuration. Therefore, it is necessary to study the characteristics of architectural space configuration and propose intelligent processing solutions for axis extraction and analysis to improve the efficiency of the axis of analysis.Given the characteristics of architectural space configuration and combined with the theory of computational geometry, this paper analyzed the geometric feature of the configuration, studied and implemented the axial extraction method for the general complex building configuration. First, our method established the all-line-map based on the geometric configuration feature, and then eliminated the redundant lines to get the axial map. Furthermore, we conducted the quantitative analysis of the generated axial map with the space syntax theory and automated the axial extraction and analysis process. The main work of this thesis is as follows:(1) This paper summarized the definition and characteristics of the axis and re-described the axial map’s classical definition rigorously, then proposed that we can construct the all line map containing axial map under the condition that the axial map is not easy to obtain directly. Furthermore, the thesis proposed the axial map’s generation steps.(2) According to the building configuration’s geometric features, this paper proposed an all-line-map’s generation method to ensure the uniqueness of the generation results. Besides, the vertexes constituting the set of all lines are divided into two categories based on the analysis of the configuration’s vertices. On this basis, the all line sets was generated.(3) This paper analyze the way to obtain axial map from the all line set. Given the high redundancy of the all line set, we proposed the subset reduction algorithm to eliminate the all line set to the axial map and some restrictions to the algorithm.(4) With the help of graph theory and analysis methods of space syntax, we got the adjacency matrix reflecting the connecting relationship of the axial map, then calculated the relevant space syntax variable value. As a consequence, we conducted a reasonable analysis for the axial map according to the calculating data.Compared to the traditional hand drawing procedure, our method ensures the uniqueness of the generate results under the premise that the results shall be in line with people’s cognitive habits. It can also improve the space syntax analysis efficiency for complex space with broad application prospects.
