The assembly of threaded coupling group plays an important role in modern automobile production line. Therefore, it needs a technologically advanced, flexible, intelligent assembly system of threaded coupling. The system can be used to complete high-precision threaded coupling automated assembly of automobile or parts. This article takes the assembly of engine cylinder head bolt for example, aims to develop a low cost, small size, flexible fastening robot arm.The fastening robot arm designed in this paper includes terminal tightening shaft portion, parallel mechanism assembly, ball splines assembly and power unit assembly. This research project belongs to the field of industrial robot arm, relying on a parallel mechanism to achieve single tighten axis’ s fast-moving, to achieve tighten device’s simplified design. The application of parallel mechanism is the key to tighten the robotic arm, so the research and design of parallel mechanism assembly is the focus of this article. The use of ball splines optimized system structure in the design process of fastening robot arm. After the design is complete, this article does simulation and design optimization about fastening robot arm by CATIA. This article took advantage of virtual assembly technology to select and design related components, carried out virtual assembly analysis and simulation based on 3D models. The fastening robot arm was tested to change the existing interference or error. The main moving parts were simulated by finite element, analysised stress, provided the basis for modification in the future. In the study of the design process, this article provides an example of a device developed from the perspective of virtual technology’s design methods and theory. The results show that this design theory can meet the needs of equipment design, improves the design efficiency and reduces the costs ofdevelopment.
