| Numerous of urban industrial wastelands are being generated with the rapid development of Chinese economy and readjustment of industrial structure. Nowadays, due to the vigorously growth of new-type urbanization and increasing shortage of urban construction land, novel era significance is given to the transformation and recycle of industrial wastelands. However, we should not only focus on the economic value of industrial wastelands acting as idle land, but also need to concern their various values that carried by the industrial heritage, such as cultural value. With the improvement of ecological awareness among public, it is worth to promote and further study the urban renewal strategy, using landscape transformation by combining scientific and ecological methods.In this paper, we analyze the definition and significance of industrial wasteland and ecological design, to further explore the values and transformation mode of industrial wastelands. Meanwhile, development of industrial landscape transformation from both domestic and abroad are described, and a deep analysis of classic cases from each developmental stage are performed. By understanding the design idea, concept, technique and ecological design strategies of those projects, we demonstrate the necessity and feasibility of industrial wasteland transformation using landscape renovation. Moreover, we conclude the general rule of how to use ecological design to complete industrial wasteland transformation. Remarkably, by comparing the difference of industrial wasteland transformation between domestic and abroad, we point out the differentiation and provide specific suggestions to the government, designer and the public respectively on the issue of industrial wasteland transformation. |
