With the rapid development of communication technology, computer technology and network technology, the degree of ship system’s automation is increasingly high, and monitoring system for power machinery of ships is an important part of the ship automation, which is necessary to guarantee the safety of ships sailing.This paper regards the power machinery of ships as the research object, and integratedly uses virtual instrument technology, signal acquisition and processing technology, database technology, 3G wireless communication technology, and conducts the research and design of monitoring system for power machinery of ships. Correlational research is of great theoretical significance in applying virtual instrument technology in the field of ship monitoring, networking fieldbus in industrial field monitoring and choosing a appropriate wireless communication technology for communication, and also be of great practical engineering value in ensuring the safety of ships sailing, promoting channel maintenance, etc.The main research work is as follows:① Describing the development status of monitoring system for power machinery of ships at home and abroad, analyzing and discussing the feasibility of virtual instrument applied in monitoring system for power machinery of ships, and proposing a monitoring system for power machinery of ships based on Lab VIEW.② Studying and analyzing the method of the RS-485 bus networking of field monitoring system,and using a star topology of RS-485 bus to network field monitoring system, and completing signal acquisition, data processing, data analysis and display of on-site monitoring system. Studying methods of wireless communication, and comparatively analyzing GSM, GPRS, 3G wireless communication technology, and achieving a communication between online monitoring system and remote monitoring center via 3G wireless communication modules.③ Designing the software of the monitoring system for power machinery of ships based on C/S architecture. In the system, online monitoring system is regarded as a client and remote monitoring center is regarded as the server, and the network uses a star topology. By listening to different ports, the remote monitoring center monitors a number of ships at a same time.④ Establishing a unified data standard and a reasonable data transmission system, and unifying data measuring points project, data encoding rules and the manner of measuring points data conversion during transmission. Designing a data transmission mechanism, like connection verification—sending the initial data—sending data periodically.Based on the reasearch of the key technologies,this paper designed and developed the software of the monitoring system for power machinery of ships based on Lab VIEW, and it has been put into practical useing, and the system is proved to be reliable and stable. Application results show that the system fits the standards and specifications of ship discipline, and meets the basic functional requirements of monitoring system for power machinery of ships. And it also can ensure effective channel maintenance work and improve the level of the ship automation.
