Gantry crane has many advantages such as space utilization high, large operating range, wide adaptability, versatility, etc. It is the most widely used port handling machinery in our country, and its running state directly affects the production efficiency and economic benefits. With the increasing in global trade, the annual throughput of many ports broke record. However, in recent years, port crane accidents frequently occur. In order to ensure that the port gantry crane safe, efficient, low-cost operation, related policy documents specified that important lifting equipment must be equipped with security monitoring system.This research took the ARM processor as the core, embedded Linux as the operating system, combined with related research in computer science, sensor technology and graphical user interface, developed a gantry crane remote monitoring system. First, the structure and operation characteristics of port gantry crane had been analyzed, and then designed the overall framework of safety monitoring system, which mainly included embedded microprocessor, serial communication module, LCD display module, information processing module, document processing module, AD sampling module, pulse sampling module, human-computer interaction module, the output control module these nine modules and so on. Finally, the development process of system hardware, CPLD software and system software program were described in detail.Security monitoring hardware system structure includes processors, power modules, memory, LCD displays, and serial modules and so on. S3C2440 A was used as the central processor; power supply module supply the power for control module; FLASH memory, SDRAM was used to store programs and monitor data of port gantry crane; LCD display module use to achieve human-machine interface. The operator can view the real-time data; USB interface and RS232 serial ports use to connect the host download the compiled software. CPLD design part of the program introduces the Quartus II development environment, and the overall program CPLD architecture, external key input program modules, external sensor signal input module program, external pulse input module and external procedures following the electrical control module program had been detail introduced. Monitoring system included. Linux device driver program development, kernel porting, QT application program development, using cross compiler tool to compile the corresponding application,being downloaded to the platform in order to achieve specific functions of embedded development platform to accomplished, and achieving the detection of various cranes point monitoring.In short, the system uses methods of developed microelectronics, with high integration, low power consumption, small size, easy to install and portable monitoring systems, and convenient for function monitoring system to be updated advantages and so on. The practical debug and verify that the monitoring system can better design task of the various functions, user-friendly, easy to operate, and can also be used for other types of security monitoring gantry cranes. Has a good prospect and popularization value.
