The analysis of temperature field and temperature stress is a very important subject in the design and construction of mass concrete structure. At present, the FEM(finite element method) as a numerical calculation method has been commonly used in the simulation of temperature field and temperature stress of mass concrete structure. However, the FEM has some limitations such as the difficulty in mesh generation. The numerical manifold method with independent cover has some advantages such as easy meshing and convenient adaptive analysis. And it provides a new approach for the calculation analysis of temperature field and temperature stress of mass concrete structure. In this paper, the numerical manifold method with independent cover is adopted to simulate the temperature field of mass concrete structure, and the following works are carried out based on the existing researches:(1) The cutting method of independent cover of mass concrete structureFor the mass concrete structure, the cutting method which generates each concrete block and independent covers in these blocks is studied, and the bar connection element is formed automatically by the computer to connect independent covers, then the whole manifold element mesh for simulation of temperature field is automatically generated.(2) The preliminary analysis on calculation precision of temperature fieldAn existing numerical manifold method program for temperature field is extended by adding related formulas and calculation programs of independent cover. The numerical manifold method with independent cover is applied to the simulation of temperature field of typical concrete block. By comparing with the theoretical solution and numerical solution of finite element method, the precision of the new numerical manifold method in the simulation of temperature field is preliminarily analyzed, and the recognition and suggestions of control of block size is put forward.(3) The simulation of transient temperature field of mass concrete structureBased on the numerical manifold method with independent cover, for the whole process of construction of a concrete gravity dam, the simulation of transient temperature field is done to verify the practicality of the new method.The above works have laid a good foundation for the application of numerical manifold method with independent cover in the simulation of temperature field of mass concrete structure.
