Research On The Development Of The Guangzhou Gardens Planning And Building Design Institute(1949-2000)

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, "Modern Lingnan Gardens" and "Modern Lingnan Architecture" have always kept its own regional characteristics, makes it an unique design school.The Guangzhou Gardens Planning and Building Design Institute and its predecessor was established in the early liberation. It has been the only landscape design institute in the city of Guangzhou for a long time, and also the highest qualified landscape design institute in the provence of Guangdong. It has designed most of the parks, architecture gardens, landscape architectures in Guanghzou, such as Yuexiu Park, Lanpu, Baiyunshan Scenic Spot, Panxi Restaurant Garden, White Swan Hotel Garden, Friendship Theatre Garden, Pavilion of Xuejianxuanyuan, Yuanzhongyuan in the pavilion and so on, making the institute a great contributor to Modern Lingnan Gardens and Architecture.For the special historical status of the institute, the research of the development and the works of the institute would make a contribution to the research of Lingnan Modern Gardens and Architecture from one side, with a high academic value. This paper discusses the development and the works to make a research for the institute.In terms of the research of the development, the author organizes the organizational transition, the key figures and the process of design with time as a context. This work provids a comprehensive way to understand the contribution of the institute.In terms of the research of the works, classify the works into three main kinds: parks, architecture gardens and landscape architectures.
