Filament Winding technology is a new type of molding technology of which products are normally made of composite material. This type of molding technology has been widely used in civil aviation and space industries because pressure vessels made of Filament Winding composite material have the advantages such as high safety factor, safe failure modes, light quality, anti-corrosion, good fatigue resistance and high pressure bearing. The computing model of the thickness of ellipsoid pressure vessel winding layer in this study will provide important reference basis for front end engineering design of ellipsoid pressure vessels. Ellipsoid pressure vessel measurement system is a unit of onsite measurement system developed for measuring the thickness of ellipsoid pressure vessels winding layer, aiming at compositing products. This unit of on-site measurement system is of high accuracy, user- friendliness and low cost, so that it’s easy to be widely used in the process of filament winding. Summing up the above, it has important theoretical significance and great practical value to study the thickness of ellipsoid pressure vessel winding layer and develop on-site measurement system.The calculation model of thickness has been studied, which is produced on the dome of ellipsoid pressure vessels. The solutions to calculate the winding layer thickness of the pressure vessels’ dome has been put forward, part of the rotational mandrel, according to Filament winding principle and Differential geometry, the theory calculation model o f the dome thickness has been set up. The bandwidth in the calculation model has been revised to make the result of thickness more accurate.The on-site measurement system of the ellipsoid pressure vessels has been developed. The solution has been put forward to select the target point by studying the measuring principle, writing VC++ program to calculate the target point, the macro program on NC system of Siemens 840 D has been compiled to control the motion of probe, the program for dealing with the data has been established which is measured on winding machine by the on-site measurement, the purpose has been achieved to measure the thickness of the el ipsoid pressure vessels on site.The on-site measurement experiment has been finished about the ellipsoid pressure vessels. The experiment obtain the measurement accuracy of the on-site measurement, when used in the ellipsoid pressure vessels measurement, and also compare the thickness of calculation model with that measured by the on-site measurement, verify the accuracy of the calculation model of the thickness on el ipsoid pressure vessels.
