Steel plate shear walls(SPSWs) and buckling-restrained steel plate shear walls(BRSPSWs) have the advantages of high shear strength, good ductility and energy dissipation ability. Owning to the advantages of these members, the use of SPSWs and BR-SPSWs in engineering is becoming popular in recent years. For SPSWs, the primary mechanisms for resisting storey shear and good ductility come from the post-buckling inclined tension field that forms for thin-walled steel plate. For BR-SPSWs,, the concrete panels attached on both sides of the steel panel are able to limit the out-of-plate buckling of steel panel, thus the shear strength and energy dissipation capacity of BR-SPSWs increases evidently compared with SPSWs. In structures, the vertical load is inevitably added on SPSWs and BR-SPSWs, which would influence the shear strength and energy absorption ability of SPSWs and BR-SPSWs. However, there is no guidelines about this. This dissertation will focus on the hysteretic analysis of SPSWs and BR-SPSWs considering vertical load. The main works are listed as follows:(1)The finite element software ABAQUS is applied to analyze the behavior of SPSWs and BR-SPSWs. In the finite element model, the solid element is used to model concrete panels specially, which can simulate mechanical properties of concrete panel more realistically comparing with shell element. The existing experimental results are used to validate the accuracy of finite element analysis results.(2)The behavior of SPSWs considering vertical load is analyzed, the typical model of SPSW considering vertical load was analyzed to reveal its mechanical properties, then the influence of column bending stiffness,height-to-thickness ratio and span-to-height ratio on the hysteretic behavior of SPSWs considering vertical load were discussed. The analytical results showed that the shear strength and rigidity of SPSWs decreases with the increasing of vertical load. Based on the analysis of plenty of parameters, the formula of calculating shear strength of SPSW considering vertical load is proposed.(3)The behavior of BR-SPSWs considering vertical load is analyzed. The typical model of BR-SPSWs considering vertical load was analyzed to reveal its mechanical properties. Then the influence of height-to-thickness ratio and span-to-height ratio on the hysteretic behavior of BR-SPSWs considering vertical load is discussed. The analytical results showed that the shear strength and rigidity of BR-SPSWs decreases with the increasing of vertical load. Based on the analytical results, The formula of calculating shear strength of BR-SPSWs considering vertical load is proposed.
