The rapid development of residential construction has become a prominent signs in the Chinese urbanization. Residential wind environment has great significance for the urban living quality and the sustainable development of urban space. Computer numerical simulation method which abbreviate as CFD, compare with field measurement, wind tunnel experiments, is widely used due to the advantages of easy to operate and the high degree of visualization..Therefore, this article will based on ANSYS CFX commercial CFD software, taking a case study for Urumchi Kaziwan residential planning, explores how the planning and design affect the residential wind environment.Firstly the paper summarizes relevant reserch in this field, then describes the technical principles and applications of CFD, and defines the evaluation index system of residential wind environment by analysis outdoor pedestrian area, atmospheric pollutants diffusion and urban heat island effect. On this basis, we use CFD methods to simulation and comparison the airflow of different single building design elements, building portfolio, buildings and landscaping layout patterns. It is concluded that the the impact of these factors on residential wind environment.Through aboving studies, this paper simulated the airflow of Urumchi Kaziwan residential planning and analysis its quality of the design wind environment with the use of the three evaluation indices. And according to the results of CFD simulations, taking targeted optimization strategies to improve the residential wind environment.Through this study, we attempt to allow cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary theory to serve the urban construction preferably, so that the wind environment can be effectively simulated and controlled at the very beginning of the residential planning, and achieve more reasonable and beneficial design practice.
