Ultrasonic non-destructive testing(NDT) is one of the most widely used and quickly developed technology at home and abroad. Its celerity, accrucy and high effiency and other characters make it widely applied in many fields such as machine manufacture, petrochemical and defense industry. It has proved to be an important way to guarantee the quality of product and the safety of equipment. Recently, the ultrasonic NDT system has turned into more digital and automatic, the system with miniaturization and low-power consumption also become development needs of modern inspection.This paper aims at desiging and impletmenting a small ultrasonic NDT system with low-power consumption. The main work of this paper includes:1. Present and implement a software scheme based on Linux and Qt/Embedded GUI library. Linux with plenty of peripheral device provides an efficient and stable platform. Qt/Embedded provides rich classes and control resources to support the system.2. Use the thought of layer and modular to design and develop the system. The system is divided into 3 layers: hardware layer, embedded system layer and application software layer. The application software consists of testing function, human-computer interaction and graphics rendering module. Every module uses the object-oriented method and standard C++ programming language to design and realize. It improves the independence of module and the transplation of code.3. Design and implement GUI based on Qt/Embedded. It realizes the transformation of LCD and displays real-time wave. The system contains four interfaces and support both Chinesae and English.4. To reduce power consumption, choose the transformer coupled circuit to depress the input voltage of the amplifier. Take the thought of timing-share to cut down the power consumption of A/D sampling. Use the conversion of work mode of S3C2410 processor to decrease work time of system.The volume of the device is 210 ?153 ?30(mm), the weight is not more than 0.6kg. After the testing, the sensitivity, resolution, dynamic range, vertical linear error and horizontal linear error are 66 dB, 30.8dB, 30 dB, 1.1% and 0.8%. The normal and special functions all work well, besides the system can last more than 20 hours. All the test results show that the system meets the performance requirements, function requirements and low-power consumption requirements. It also indicates this system works well and the design plan is feasible.
