Connectors play a role as a bridge in the circuit, it is an indispensable part which is used to connect two active devices, and pass electricity and signal between the devices. It is widely used in aviation, aerospace, machinery, communications and other fields. Sometimes the amount of connectors can reach hundreds of thousands, involving tens of thousands of lines. In a large number of connectors, whenever there is a connection fails, it will have an immeasurable impact on the entire system. Therefore, the study of the reliability of the connector is very necessary. Since contact failure is the main cause of connector failure, so this paper aims at the main factors influencing the contact failure: the contact pressure and the temperature of the contacts and use finite element analysis software to study and analyze them.First, this paper analyze the reason for the failure of the connector and obtain a contact failure is the main cause of failure. And the main factors that affect the contact failure are the contact pressure and temperature. This paper uses Solidworks software to build the modeling of the selected connector, to understand the structure and its overall size parameters, provide the basis for subsequent analysis.Contact pressure of the connector is analyzed. During the mating process of pin and jack, the deformation process of jack is seen as cantilever’s bending process. This paper determines the minimum contact pressure by using the classical theory of mechanics of materials and analyzes the factors affecting the contact pressure. This paper uses ABAQUS software to analyze cantilever model, the results with theoretical calculations to verify the correctness of the results. ABAQUS software is reused to do the contact analysis on process mating of pin and jack. Study distribution variation of insertion and extraction force with the displacement of the pin and distribution variation of contact stresses. This paper determines the thermal conduction of the connector by the structure of the selected connector. Make a theoretical calculation on the temperature distribution in the various parts of the connector by using classical thermodynamic theory when the electric current is 1A. The temperature distribution of the entire connector is simulated to verify the previous theoretical results by using Ansys Workbench software. And analyze the effect of different temperatures and electric on temperature distribution.
