In digital communication systems, the contact fault of the electrical connector usually occurred, especially of the coaxial connector. The deleterious effects of connect degradation at connector is one of the main reasons of declining quality of communication and rising error rate.This paper focuses on the electrical contact properties of coaxial connectors and the deleterious effects of contact degradation on signal integrity and bit error rate through the theoretical analysis, FEM simulation and experiment measurement. Based on finite element method, the transmission of high frequency current in degraded coaxial connectors is simulated and the contact resistance, contact inductance and interfacial capacitance are calculated at high frequencies. A model of contact impedance is introduced to analyze the effects of electric contacts on the transmission of signals in communication system. Contact deterioration may also lead to nonlinearity and the generation of parasitic third-order harmonics that contribute to loss of signal integrity. It also has the experiment to verify the analysis, study the resistance in DC and high frequency of the degraded connector and the bit error rate due to the contact failure. This paper is focused on the simulation of the signal passing through the model of electrical contact resistance and the experiment of study the impact of the corroded connector on the digital signal transmission.
