At present, Chinese energy utilization rate is low and energy supply and demand tensions exist for a long period. With the rapid growth of economy and freight transport demand increasing, the energy efficiency of commercial trucks is closely linked to transportation industry’s energy-saving work. The energy efficiency standard and energy label system and fuel consumption limit for commercial trucks have been proven to effectively improve product energy efficiency. Based on this, we decide to classify the energy efficiency of commercial vehicles. This paper has taken relevant data of energy efficiency evaluation as the research object, and the proof test is conducted to ensure the accuracy of basic data. By analyzing the level of energy efficiency and changes of the state of technology, we can know classification of energy efficiency of commercial trucks is necessary and rational. The method is proposed to classify the energy efficiency by coincidence rate. The main work of this paper is as follows:Based on the automobile benchmark energy efficiency index in Japan, consumers’ cognition and the evaluation index in the entry management of road freight vehicle, this paper chooses the fuel consumption per hundred kilometers as the evaluation index. The affecting factors of energy efficiency including vehicle technology and the use are introduced. Current truck classifications can’t reflect the fuel consumption differences. Based on JT719-2008 “measuring methods and fuel consumption limits of commercial truck”, all the trucks were classified into different groups by 2t as an interval according to the total mass. To ensure the accuracy and reliability of the underlying data, according to “general evaluation method of energy efficiency in transportation industry”, verification test of energy consumption data which is provided by the bulletin platform of the Department of Transportation Motor Transport Energy Technology Center has been conducted.This paper analyzes the distribution and degree of difference of energy efficiency of 2012--2014 proclamation commercial trucks, which meet the second phase limit. Technical condition of vehicles, such as changes in displacement, lightweight technology, fuel consumption is also introduced. Classification of energy efficiency of commercial trucks is necessary and rational.Finally, the energy efficiency of commercial truck was classified into three levels(entry, energy-saving and advanced) through three limits(entry, energy-saving and advanced) by reference to “general evaluation method of energy efficiency in transportation industry”. The paper figures out all the three limits based on the coincidence rate by Matlab.
