With the continuous development of the national marine career, in order to protect marine rights and resource, China not only develop marine technology research, but also strengthen the construction of marine defense, the research achievement have widely used in military and civilian, for example the underwater acoustic locating technology applied in marine navigation and locating.At present, there are two modes of domestic underwater acoustic tracking:active tracking and passive tracking, the active tracking is based on cooperating acoustic beacon of target, and passive tracking use the sound of target. In order to insure the tracking accuracy, active tracking is mostly used in water surface and underwater target tracking, but in some special circumstance, target is difficult to apply cooperating acoustic beacon, then the passive tracking is very important in target tracking.This paper propose a new data processing system for underwater acoustic target passive tracking, tracking water surface and underwater target by using target noise. The data processing system is designed in virtual instrument technology, the work of this paper include three parts:1. Research of data processing method for acoustic target passive tracking. The domestic and abroad situation of underwater target tracking technology is comprehended by studying and referring the documents and papers, the data processing algorithms such as multi-beam forming, signal delay estimation, DOA calculation and trace smoothing are researched according to the passive tracking theory and actually application, then the underwater acoustic tracking data processing method is proposed.2. Design of the underwater acoustic target passive tracking data processing system. Firstly the system overall design is achieved based on the passive tracking theory, and then the hardware and software are designed according to the system function requirement. For using virtual instrument, the hardware design is concentrated with configuration design, signal acquisition and processing board-card chose and debug. The software design is mostly focus on embedded program for FPGA, and GUI design to achieve target passive tracking and locating by interactive operation.3. System debug and test. Testing the acquisition function by using standard instruments in laboratory, and verifying the embedded data processing program by using simulation data, then testing customer software by using real target tracking data. The system is finally tested in water surface target tracking. The test result indicate that the data processing system can tracking and locating water surface and underwater targets in a large area, the research goal in this paper is achieved.
